How did you come up with the name Hyggelight?
Thanks for asking! We came up with Hyggelight after the Danish word “hyggeligt” (hygge•like) indicating coziness with feelings of wellbeing or contentment. Since we were making candles we simply added the “h” to form Hyggelight and there you have it! Wellbeing, contentment and coziness in zero-waste packaging that takes care of you and the planet.
What does “hygge” mean?
Great question! Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) refers to creating a feeling of being comfortable + empowered by your surroundings. We hope our Growing Candles contribute to your space and wellbeing while taking care of the planet too. It’s a win-win!

Do you make your pots?
Our pots are selected by a distributor that collects from all over the world! Since we’re avid travelers, this really spoke to our family + business. Best of all, they’re each handmade.
Do the containers have drainage holes at the bottom?
No, they do not. That would be one messy candle ;) We have found throughout our gardening experience (for several years, because we love it) these little containers produce cute mini-wildflowers that do not require drainage as long as they are not over-watered.
Because these flowers start from seeds, they will take a few months to bloom.
It really is such a fun + exciting process!
Once you feel the flowers are getting too large for their containers simply re-pot them in a larger container. They make the best indoor gardens!
Where do the names come from for the hygge pots?
Ah, what’s in a name? Well, first we picked names that just sounded cool. Someone you’d want to have hanging out in your living room or out on the patio… Others we chose deliberately, like Edith- named after co-founder Cyndi’s vovo’ (grandma in Brazil), and Adelyn- named after our daughter.

What are your candles made out of?
All our fragrances are made with essential oils + premium fragrance oils. They are free of harmful parabens and phthalates as well as vegan and cruelty-free!
What is your best-selling fragrance?
Sandalwood + Vanilla… hands down! Insider tip: Cyndi (co-founder) likes the Apple + Cinnamon and Rosemary fragrances while Chris’s (co-founder) favorites are Cedarwood and Ginger + Lime. Pick the one that speaks to you and happy shopping!
What if someone doesn’t care for the fragrance they received? (Including me?)
We’re all different, and that’s what makes the world go round! If you would like a different fragrance simply email your order number and new preference to firstname.lastname@example.org . We’ve got you! Stay hygge-inspired, a new candle is on its way.
Who makes the candles?
Hyggelight has an awesome team of studio assistants who mix and hand-pour each fragrance to order. Our 100% soy wax Growing Candles are completely beeswax free, vegan and zero-waste. Once the candle burns down to the wick, wipe it out with some soap and warm water to prep your pot for your wildflowers!
How long do the candles burn?
It depends on the Growing Candle :). Our longest burning is Oliver = 95-100 hours. Norah = 75 hours; Emma = 65 hours Edith & Astrid burn 45-50 hours. Ida & Willow both burn at about 55 hours.
How do I prevent my candle from pillaring?
Candle care guide: The first time you burn your Growing Candle, make sure the whole top of it is melted. Let your candle melt one hour for every inch in diameter. Trim the wick to ¼” before re-lighting. Proper candle care ensures a completely “hygge” experience!

Does it come with soil or do I need to provide it?
Great idea! We are currently testing the best soil pods to send with your Growing Candles. Stay tuned! Until then it is BYOS (Bring Your Own Soil).
What kind of flowers are in the seed paper labels?
Seed Variations Include: Candytuft, Corn Poppy, Five Spot, Catchfly, English Daisy, Baby Blue Eyes, Siberian Wallflower, Scarlet Flax, Zinnia, Sweet William Pinks, Gloriosa Daisy, Spurred Snapdragon, and Black-Eyed Susan. What are the dimensions of the watercolor prints included in the packaging?
In case you'd like to frame these beautiful paintings, the dimensions are 4.75" x 4.75". Psst.... they also have instructions for growing your seed paper labels on the back ;).
Where can I find pictures of the wildflowers?

Are the wildflower seeds in the label toxic to animals?
The bad news: yes, some of the wildflowers seeds in the blend are unsafe for animals.
How long should I soak my seed paper label?
SOAK your entire seed paper label in water overnight.
- PLANT pieces in soil, covering with about 1/8 inch.
- CARE for your seeds, watering 2-3 times a day.
Make sure you're placing your Growing Candle in sunlight or under a grow light! And give them a drink a couple times throughout the day - a small squirt bottle works out well. Thanks for staying Forever Hygge Inspired + Planet Obsessed.
How much of the label has seeds in it?

Is the price included in the package slip?
It is not! We will however include your personalized message should you add one during checkout. :)
Can I purchase a gift card instead?
Absolutely! Head over to our Gift Card Shop and thank you for your purchase.
Will my card be charged monthly or all at once?
You’ll be charged monthly for the price of your candle + $6.99 shipping. Charges will occur automatically on the same calendar date each month, and you’ll receive a confirmation email when this charge takes place. Your candle will be shipped within one business day of this confirmation!
What if I want to edit, extend, or end my subscription?
Go for it! There are two ways to manage your subscription: either head to the “Manage Your Subscription” link you received in your confirmation email from us with the subject line “You have a new subscription!” or head to our website HERE and create an account using the same email address you used when placing your subscription order.
Once your account is set up, you can login any time and click “Manage My Subscriptions” to make changes (such as updating the shipping address, product selection, payment method, pausing/canceling your subscription, etc.). Just be sure to make any desired changes before the day your card is charged… otherwise, our system won’t catch these changes before your order is shipped out.
Can I add or remove candles from my subscription?
Yes! If you want to add a candle (or candles) to your subscription, you’ll need to email us at email@example.com, as our subscription management portal can only accommodate removing candles from your order.
To remove candles from your subscription, log in to our website, hit the “Manage My Subscriptions” button, select the subscription you’d like to alter, and hit the “Remove” button next to the candle you’d like taken off your next order.
Can I receive a different fragrance and/or pot style each month?
You betcha. Just log in to your account on our website (NOTE: when creating an account, be sure to use the same email address that you used when purchasing your subscription), or click the “Manage Your Subscription” button in the confirmation email you received from us with the subject line “You have a new subscription!” Once you’re logged in to the subscription management portal, you can then select your active subscription and hit the “swap product” button next to your current candle type.
Please note, our subscription platform is currently set up so you can only swap for candle pot styles of an equal or lower price. If you’d like to change to a more expensive candle, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org at least 2-3 business days before your next order is scheduled to ship.
At this time, if you received a subscription as a gift and want to change your product each month, you’ll need to coordinate with the gift giver/account holder to make any updates.
Can I buy a subscription as a gift?
Yep! Just enter the recipient’s name + address in the shipping section, then use your own email and billing address to complete the order. As the purchaser, you’ll receive access to the subscription management portal (see “What if I want to edit, extend, or end my subscription?” for details on setting that up) where you can make any changes to the subscription.

What is your policy on returns and exchanges?
Exchanges are hassle-free, because we believe in keeping it “hygge”. Therefore, NO RETURNS NECESSARY TO RECEIVE A NEW GROWING CANDLE as a replacement for the one you received. Please email email@example.com with your request for a new fragrance and we will make it right for your space and time. How long does it take to reach the shipping address?
All orders in stock go out within 1-2 days of order. Standard shipping takes about 2-5 days via UPS, depending on your proximity to Toledo, OH. Orders of $75 and over qualify for free shipping.
How do I track my order?
You will receive emails confirming your order as well as an alert when it is shipped from our studio. Your tracking is included. Hyggelight is not responsible for any lost or stolen packages.
Do you ship internationally?
Thank you for asking! Due to the various additional shipping fees tagged on to your orders, Hyggelight currently operates solely within the United States. Any updates will be posted here.
What do I do if my package is marked as “delivered” but I did not receive it?
This can happen sometimes. Packages are often marked as 'Delivered' before they arrive. If that's the case, it will normally turn up by the next day. If you still don't see it, please contact the carrier.
Once we hand pour your Growing Candles and package them with care in our zero-waste materials, your candles are literally in the hands of our trusted carriers, USPS or UPS.
How do I create wholesale orders?
